School:                       University of Wisconsin

Location:                   Madison, WI

Conference:              Big 10

Stadium:                    Camp Randall Stadium (Capacity: 80,321)

There are few places that scream Big 10 football more than an 11am local kick at Camp Randall in mid-October with a crisp 45 degree breeze in the air. But do not let the brisk fall weather deter you – this is a fantastic destination for any college football fan. The stadium sits right in the city of Madison, about 15 minutes from campus and right off Lake Mendota. It is truly a picturesque destination and sums up just about everything you’d want to experience in a Midwest football town. Friendly folk, good local food and a steady dose of running the football.

The Weekend

Travel: Madison is a very easy trip to make – one of the easiest I’ve found in my years of travel. The city is about an hour due west of Milwaukee and a quick rental car or Uber ride to your destination. I suggest getting into town a day early to explore the city of Madison and all it has to offer. You won’t be disappointed.

Lodging: Since the city of Madison is of decent size, you shouldn’t have trouble finding a hotel as long as you book early enough. I suggest the Hilton Monona Terrace, which sits right between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona and is walking distance to a lot of bars and restaurants.

Local Food: Try Graze, a gastropub located right in the square near the State Capitol. If you’ve never had cheese curds before, I doubt you will be able to leave Madison without trying one.

Local Drink: It’s hard to nail down any one place in Madison since there are so many bars in this city. I’ll throw one out there for your Friday at 5 crowd – Kollege Klub right by campus has a “Friday After Class” 2-for-1 special from 2pm-9pm. Whoa!

The Tailgate

Since you are in a city, tailgating in Madison is a bit different. While there are some outdoor lots near the stadium, I would suggest finding an indoor/outdoor bar location. Jordan’s Big 10 Pub is an excellent spot. Huge outdoor lot, five minute walk from the stadium and yes, they open VERY early. Crack your first at 8am if you want, especially when the coin toss is scheduled for 11am.

Unique Tradition

You’ve seen it on TV, but it’s another experience in person. You will shake, you will bounce and you will love every minute of House of Pain. Jump Around is one of the best traditions in the sport.
